Europe Men Chess Championship 2012


   Europe Men Chess Championship will take place on 19 March - 1 April. Today is the arrival day and all participants are coming to Plovdiv, accommodating and getting ready for the serious challenge. The tournament is arranged by Bulgarian Chess Federation.

   Individual Europe Men Chess Championship 2012 will be held by Swiss system in 11 rounds. The time control will be 90 minutes for 40 moves and 30 minutes till the end of the game with 30 seconds being added for each move. Any communication between the players (offering a draw) prohibited until the 40th move is done.

   Top 15 positions are awarded. The player taking 15th position gets 250 euro. For the first place you get 14000, for the second place 11000 and for the third place 9000 euro. Comparing the prizes with the ones of the recently completed Europe Women Championship, the huge difference can be seen. According to Bulgarian law, 10% tax is applied to all prizes.

   In total, there are 350 players participating in the tournament. The games start at 17:00 and the last tour will start at 15:00 Moscow time. 26 March is day off.

   Europe Men Championship 2012 is over; it was won by our compatriot Dmitry Yakovenko!!! Congratulations to the winner who collected 8.5 out of 11 possible scores.
