   This defence is rarely used nowadays. It is called "The Black Lion". This system is very complex and has some logical continuations; the formation of black figures represents the sleeping lion, that is where the name originates from. The first moves of this defence are easily recognized. Black has a huge number of plans in the mittelspiel making this defence very strong and interesting. White has to estimate many variations as the initiative is quite difficult to be taken, as Black always has the counter game.
